IPL 2018: Ricky Ponting to lead the show for the Delhi Daredevils as the team’s head coach

Adding to the list, Ricky Ponting has been declared as the head coach of the Delhi Daredevils team. He was earlier appointed and associated with the Mumbai Indians. The Delhi Daredevils have also retained their assets in the form of Pant, Iyer and Morris.

The former Australia captain, who has been a veteran in the game, Ricky Ponting has been announced to take the place of the new head coach of Delhi Daredevils for the Indian Premier League, 2018. This declaration was made on this Thursday by the Delhi Daredevils CEO Hemant Dua. Twitting on Twitter, he made the declaration and also simultaneously welcomed this three-time world cup winner.

43-year-old Ricky was earlier the coach of Mumbai Indians for two consecutive seasons in 2015, winning the title and during 2016. Apart from playing the coaching part, he has also played in the cash-rich T20 tournaments from the side of Kolkata Knight Riders and the Mumbai Indians, too. There are also many talks going on relating to Ponting heading the Australian team for the upcoming T20I, coaching for the Australian cricket team. However, he wouldn’t be the head coach here, but, will assist the current head coach, Darren Lehman for the Australia’s T20 tri-series to be played against England and New Zealand in the month of February.

Ponting has been a legendary player of the game, who has played 168 Tests, scored a total of 13378 runs at an average of 51.85. In the ODIs, he has made 375 appearances, scoring 13704 runs at an average of 42.03, apart from his 401 runs contribution in the 17 T20Is.

Delhi Daredevils has a lot of expectation from this star veteran coming on board. DD has also retained few of their top players namely, Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer and Chris Morris.
